He rarely photographs people other than daughters, granddaughters and the UNC Women’s soccer team.

Since 2005, he has participated in a number of one-man and group shows and has several photographs in the Chatham County Arts Council’s Gallery in Pittsboro.

Photography

Before retiring to Chatham County in 1996, Roy taught geology at the George Washington University where he used photography in research and teaching.

His “photo epiphany” came in late 2002, when after purchasing his first digital camera, a massive ice storm hit the Triangle. He was engulfed by “Kodak Moments” and was off on a new “career.”

His favorite subjects include dragonflies, butterflies, flowers and medieval European towns.
